Check where the truck operates.

A different registration state does not by itself remove California Clean Truck Check requirements.

What changed in 2026?

CARB’s March 10, 2026 notice says requirements remain in effect for subject out-of-state vehicles operating in California. Its explanation distinguishes the EPA decision about State Implementation Plan emissions credit from the vehicle owner’s compliance obligations.

Start with the vehicle and its work

List the vehicles you actually assign to California routes. Record engine model year, fuel, GVWR and any claimed exemption. Review the official account for each vehicle rather than assuming the whole fleet has the same status.

Where remote testing fits

A compatible connected OBD setup can reduce the need to arrange a separate testing visit. Use the correct device and connection for your engine and keep it powered and connected for testing. Your registration state does not change the CARB Clean Truck Check test method. Use your state page to start your setup.

Before the next load

Confirm the right vehicle record, its due date and its test result. A quote, an installed device and an official compliant record are different things.
